Mitsubishi in Los Gatos
Los Gatos has the widest housing spread in our service area, and that's why Mitsubishi comes up so often here. Downtown Victorians and Craftsmans frequently have zero forced-air HVAC: gravity furnaces in the basement, original radiators, wall heaters room by room. Cutting ducts and returns into that kind of house means real architectural damage. A Mitsubishi multi-head mini-split, one outdoor condenser feeding one head per primary room, gives full heating and cooling without tearing into plaster or sacrificing the period interior.
The hillside customs are a different problem with the same brand answer. A west-facing upper-level bedroom can be calling for cooling in the late afternoon while the shaded lower level is still cold. On larger hillside homes we lean on multi-zone, and on the worst sun-loaded rooms a dedicated Mitsubishi head holds that one space without forcing the whole system to overrun.
Where we're honest with Los Gatos owners: a multi-head Mitsubishi system isn't cheap, and the more heads you add, the more the cost climbs. For a hillside home that already has good ductwork, a zoned ducted heat pump is often the better value, and we'll say so. Mitsubishi is the answer for no-duct houses and for the specific rooms central air can't reach. We don't make it the default on every job.
Mitsubishi work we do in Los Gatos
Multi-head ductless on downtown Victorians. Our standard recommendation for a no-duct Victorian or Craftsman downtown is a Mitsubishi multi-zone: one outdoor unit, one head per primary room. It adds cooling and modern heating without cutting returns and duct chases into a historic interior. We work out line-set routing and condenser placement on site, because these lots and setbacks rarely make it simple.
Supplemental heads on hillside hot rooms. On a hillside home where one west-facing room defeats the central system every afternoon, we add a single Mitsubishi head for that room. It runs on its own thermostat, so the rest of the house stops overcooling to chase one space. This is usually cheaper and more effective than upsizing the whole central system.
Hyper-Heat for all-electric conversions. Some Los Gatos owners going off gas want heating handled by the same ductless system. Mitsubishi's Hyper-Heat line holds capacity well below our mild Bay Area winter design temps, so a single system covers both seasons. Our winters don't demand cold-climate equipment, but Hyper-Heat gives margin on the rare hard freeze.
Diagnostics and board repair on existing M-Series. We troubleshoot Mitsubishi units already in place: blinking-light error codes, communication faults between heads and the outdoor unit, condensate pump failures on high-wall and ceiling cassette heads, and refrigerant charge issues. Mitsubishi boards and sensors come through distribution, so we confirm the part and lead time before the repair visit.
