Trane in Los Gatos
On the hillside custom homes is where Trane earns its keep in Los Gatos. Those houses have a real airflow problem: a west-facing master suite calling for cooling in the late afternoon while the lower family room is still in morning shade. Trane's variable-speed and two-stage condensers, run as separate equipment per floor, handle that swinging load better than a single-stage system chasing it all day. We default to dual or three-zone on any hillside home above roughly 2,500 square feet, and Trane is a legitimate backbone for that.
Downtown is different. The older homes around the village often have no forced-air at all, just gas furnaces and original radiators, and adding Trane central ducts there means tearing into plaster and hunting for chase space that mostly is not there. On those homes we recommend multi-head ductless instead, Mitsubishi or Daikin, one head per primary room. Trane is the wrong tool for that job and we say so.
Worth knowing before you commit: Trane and American Standard parts route through the brand's distributor network. We have manufacturer access for warranty work, but a rare communicating board can mean a distributor wait rather than a same-day fix from our own stock. On a three-zone hillside system that dependency matters more, so we walk through it up front.
Trane work we do in Los Gatos
Multi-zone Trane installs on hillside customs. The hillside homes are where Trane belongs in Los Gatos. We design two- or three-zone ducted systems with separate equipment per floor so the west-facing rooms and the shaded lower level are not fighting one thermostat. Trane's modulating condensers hold setpoint better through the afternoon load swing than single-stage gear.
Supplemental ductless on the worst rooms. Even with a zoned Trane central system, a few west-facing upper rooms on a hillside can run hot. We will sometimes pair the Trane backbone with a single ductless head on the worst room rather than oversizing the whole system to chase one space. That is honest engineering here.
Control board and zone-damper diagnostics. On existing multi-zone Trane systems the failure points are the zone control boards and the damper motors. When a zone stops calling or runs constantly, we test the board and dampers against Trane's diagnostics before replacing anything, and we source the correct part through the manufacturer channel.
Condenser placement on tight hillside lots. Hillside Los Gatos lots make condenser siting and line routing genuinely hard. On a Trane install we scope placement, line length, and elevation at the estimate so the refrigerant charge and routing are right before work starts. Long vertical line runs change the design, and we account for that up front.
