York in Los Gatos
York is Johnson Controls mid-market ducted equipment: furnaces, air conditioners, and heat pumps that we install and service across the Bay Area. In Los Gatos that ducted strength applies to one half of the housing stock and not the other. The mid-century redwood hillside customs and the newer luxury infill usually have full forced-air with multiple zones, and York installs into those homes well. The older downtown homes often have zero ductwork, gravity furnaces, or original radiators, and for those we steer toward ductless rather than forcing a York ducted system into walls that cannot take it.
On the hillside homes, sizing is the real problem, not the brand. A west-facing upper-level master can be calling for cooling in the late afternoon while the shaded lower family room is fine. We default to dual or three-zone setups on the larger homes, and York's two-stage and variable-speed equipment supports that with proper zoning controls. For the most demanding hillside comfort, the premium tier holds tighter setpoints at low load. York is the sensible mid pick when you want reliable zoned ducted equipment with common parts and a real warranty at a fairer price.
The climate here swings with the hillside. Sun-exposed upper floors carry a much heavier afternoon cooling load than shaded canyon lots a mile away. That spread is exactly why we measure each home rather than reuse a number. A York system sized to a west-facing upper floor is a different machine than one sized to a shaded lot down the road.
York work we do in Los Gatos
Multi-zone York install on hillside customs. For the larger hillside homes we split equipment per floor and add zoning so the hot west-facing rooms get cooling without overcooling the shaded side. York two-stage and variable-speed equipment supports this, and we lay out the zone plan and equipment list on the written estimate before any sale conversation.
Honest ductless pivot for older downtown homes. When a downtown home has no ductwork, a York ducted system is the wrong tool. We say so and recommend a multi-head ductless mini-split instead, one outdoor unit and one head per primary room, without tearing into plaster. York ducted is for the homes that already have, or can reasonably get, real ducts.
Hybrid central-plus-ductless for problem rooms. Some hillside homes keep a central York system for the bulk of the house and add a ductless head for the one room the central system cannot satisfy. This is cheaper than rezoning a whole house and often solves the chronic hot room. We scope both paths so you can compare.
York condenser and control repair. On installed York equipment we see control board faults, failed capacitors and contactors, and refrigerant problems as systems age. Parts availability is good, so most repairs are quick turnarounds. The $75 diagnostic is credited toward any repair over $200.
