Bryant in Los Gatos
Bryant is Carrier's lower-priced sister brand, same parent company and near-identical engineering, and in Los Gatos that crossover is useful because the housing is all over the map. You have 1880s Victorians and Craftsman bungalows downtown with no forced-air at all, mid-century redwood hillside customs running full multi-zone HVAC, and post-2000 luxury infill. A Bryant system gives Carrier-grade engineering at a lower price, and with parts that cross over with Carrier, future service on a multi-zone hillside home stays straightforward.
The hillside microclimate is the real sizing challenge here. This is climate zone 4, with elevation and orientation pushing the cooling load higher than the valley floor, and a single hillside home can have a west-facing upper room baking at 4 PM while the lower family room is still cool. A single-zone system spends the afternoon trying to satisfy two opposite rooms and never wins. We default to dual or three-zone setups on any hillside home above 2,500 square feet, and Bryant's Evolution variable-speed line is well suited to that, staging capacity per floor with a supplemental ductless head for the worst west-facing rooms.
For the older downtown stock, the honest call is usually ductless. The Victorians and Craftsmans typically have no ductwork, just gravity furnaces, and forcing central ducts in means real architectural surgery. For those we recommend a multi-head ductless mini-split over a central Bryant system: one outdoor condenser, a head per room, no wall destruction, period architecture preserved. We'll tell you when ductless beats central rather than selling the bigger central job.
Bryant work we do in Los Gatos
Multi-zone Bryant installs on hillside customs. For hillside homes above 2,500 sqft we install dual or three-zone Bryant Evolution systems, separate equipment per floor sized to each zone's load. The variable-speed compressor handles the afternoon swing on a west-facing upper level without leaving the shaded lower floor over-cooled.
Supplemental ductless for west-facing rooms. When one room bakes every afternoon, we add a ductless head off the system to handle that worst-case load directly instead of oversizing the whole central zone. It's the targeted fix for the hillside orientation problem that single-zone systems can't solve.
Multi-head ductless for Victorian and Craftsman retrofits. Downtown homes with no ductwork get a multi-head ductless mini-split rather than a central Bryant system. One outdoor condenser feeds a head in each primary room, so there's no floor or wall destruction, full climate control, and the period architecture stays intact. We scope head placement room by room at the estimate.
Hybrid central-plus-ductless systems. On homes where a central zone covers most of the floor plan but a few problem rooms don't behave, we combine a central Bryant system with ductless heads for the holdouts. It's cheaper than re-ducting and gives the problem rooms their own setpoint.
