Your home already has supply registers and a return grille. If you want an electric heat pump, the first question is whether that air-distribution system can stay. A Mitsubishi multi-position air handler connects to ductwork; wall units are not the only route to a Mitsubishi installation.
Start with the ducts and the equipment space
Mitsubishi describes its multi-position air handler as a replacement option for a furnace or forced-air system with existing ducts. A concealed horizontal ducted unit is another style, intended for a different layout. We compare the equipment arrangement with the space available instead of treating the cabinets as interchangeable.
At your free installation assessment, we’ll inspect the supply and return paths, the proposed cabinet location and access for future service. We also check the electrical supply, outdoor placement, refrigerant route and condensate drainage. Bring up any rooms that already heat or cool unevenly. Keeping the ducts should be a decision based on their condition and the new design.
All-electric replacement or keep the furnace?
A heat pump paired with an electric air handler replaces the furnace’s role in delivering heat. If you want to retain a gas furnace, intelli-HEAT dual fuel is a separate arrangement that needs a compatibility check. We can discuss both at the visit; a functioning furnace alone doesn’t establish that the hybrid combination will work.
An air handler serving several rooms through shared ducts also isn’t the same as giving each room its own indoor unit. Tell us whether your goal is whole-home replacement or separate temperature settings in particular rooms. Our indoor-unit comparison explains the physical options.
Estimate and coverage
For comparison, our Mitsubishi ductless planning range is $5,500–9,000 per room or zone. It is not a price for replacing a central air handler. The free assessment produces a written quote for your actual equipment, ducts and installation work. Financing available on approved credit.
