Before you buy a new wall controller, send us a photo of the indoor unit’s model label and the control you use now. A Mitsubishi logo on both devices does not establish compatibility. The indoor model and its suffix decide which connection or interface is needed.
If you’re choosing a new system as well, our Mitsubishi lineup guide separates the equipment families. This page is for choosing the controls. For questions about set-points and where temperature is sensed, see our temperature-control guide.
Choose how you want to use it
| Option | When it is useful | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Handheld wireless remote | You want a portable control for the room. | Whether the remote is supplied with that indoor model and whether a separate receiver is required. |
| MHK2 | You prefer a wireless touch-screen controller. | Indoor-model compatibility and the components needed for the chosen setup. |
| Simple wired controller | You want the control in a fixed location. | The exact controller revision and whether your planned app setup can be used with it. |
| Comfort app | You want app-based operation. | Built-in Wi-Fi or a compatible wireless interface for each indoor unit. |
| Third-party 24 V thermostat | You want to use a thermostat from another manufacturer. | A compatible thermostat interface for each indoor unit and the exact thermostat pairing. |
| MA wired controller | You want Mitsubishi's Touch MA or Deluxe MA control. | Whether the indoor unit needs the MAC-334IF-E control interface. |
Mitsubishi’s chart does not show a standard handheld remote packaged with every indoor unit. For example, SLZ four-way cassettes, SEZ concealed ducted units and SVZ air handlers are shown without one. The receiver and controller must be checked together. MHK2 is listed as a wireless touch-screen control in the Accessories sheet, which also lists it as compatible with kumo cloud (the app Mitsubishi has since replaced with Comfort). That does not mean app hardware is included with MHK2.
App control: built in or added per indoor unit
The July match-up sheet marks FX, GX and JX wall units, MFZ-KX floor units and MLZ-KX one-way cassettes as having built-in Wi-Fi. It shows an added Wi-Fi interface for HX and WX, along with other listed indoor styles. The wireless interface described in the Accessories sheet is for kumo cloud/Comfort app and requires one interface per indoor unit when that interface is needed.
For a multi-zone installation, list the indoor models room by room. A shared outdoor unit does not turn one added Wi-Fi interface into an interface for all of them. We include the necessary control hardware in the equipment proposal once that list is confirmed.
MA controls and the MAC-334IF-E interface
The compatibility chart groups Touch MA and Deluxe MA separately from the controls that connect through CN105. Its “Need MAC-334” note means an M-Series control interface connects at CN105 and provides the TB15 connection for an MA remote controller. We arrange that work; this is not a wiring guide.
| Indoor family | MA controller entry |
|---|---|
| MSZ-FX, MSY/Z-GX, MSZ-JX, MSZ-HX, MSZ-WX and MSZ-EX | Works with an MA controller through the MAC-334IF-E interface. |
| MFZ-KX floor unit and MLZ-KX one-way cassette | Works with an MA controller through the MAC-334IF-E interface. |
| SLZ-AF cassette, SEZ-AD ducted unit and SVZ-AP air handler | Works with an MA controller; the chart shows no MAC-334 needed. |
This is a set of examples, not permission to swap controllers between generations. The same chart distinguishes older indoor-unit suffixes with different compatibility results. We check the full label and installation documentation before selecting an interface.
Keeping a third-party thermostat
The Accessories sheet describes an interface that allows a third-party 24 VAC thermostat to control an indoor unit, with one interface required per indoor unit. A thermostat choice therefore needs both an equipment compatibility check and an interface in the installation plan. Bring the thermostat model number to the conversation; “smart thermostat” alone isn’t enough to specify the parts.
Mitsubishi’s own charts list different part revisions for the thermostat interface, simple wired controller and Deluxe MA controller. We confirm the exact part for your model before ordering. We also confirm combined app and wired-control operation: the Accessories sheet warns that its listed simple wired controller does not work with kumo cloud, so simultaneous operation should not be assumed.
What to send us
A model-label photo is more useful than a photo of the cabinet alone. Include the indoor and outdoor labels, your existing remote or wall controller, and which rooms need app access. Tell us if you want a fixed wall control or to keep a particular third-party thermostat.
Contact Bay Area HVAC Service or call (925) 999-4095 for help matching the controls. New HVAC installation assessments are free. If an existing system has stopped responding, a repair visit starts with a $99 diagnostic, credited toward the repair. Controls and installation work are quoted for your equipment.
For equipment placement, compare our indoor-unit styles. A ducted replacement or intelli-HEAT installation needs its own control design; a garage, ADU or studio and basement each start with the proposed indoor equipment. Our Mitsubishi hub covers service and installation.
