Mitsubishi in Los Altos
Mitsubishi Electric earned its reputation on ductless mini-splits, and that is where it earns its place in Los Altos too. The lot pattern here, big single-story ranches on quarter-acre-plus lots, almost always points us toward dual-zone ducted heat pumps for the main house. Mitsubishi handles the part the central system can't fix cleanly: the pop-up second story, the converted garage office, the older wing that was never tied into the original ductwork.
On those rooms a single Mitsubishi M-Series wall head off one outdoor condenser solves the problem without re-running ducts through a finished ceiling. The honest tradeoff is cost per zone. Ductless is more expensive per square foot of conditioned space than extending a central system, so if a room can be reached with reasonable duct work, we'll usually price that first and let you compare. We put both options on the written estimate.
We don't oversell Mitsubishi here as a whole-house replacement when ducts already exist and are worth keeping. For most Los Altos homes the central system stays central. Mitsubishi covers the rooms that fall outside it, and that's the job we reach for it on.
Mitsubishi work we do in Los Altos
Single-head mini-split for additions and pop-ups. The most common Mitsubishi job we run in Los Altos is one M-Series indoor head serving a room the original system never covered. We mount the outdoor unit out of sight, run the line set through the attic or an exterior chase, and the room finally holds temperature without touching the main ductwork.
Home-office and bonus-room comfort fixes. A lot of Los Altos homeowners converted a garage or built a detached studio during the work-from-home years. A ductless head gives that space its own thermostat and dehumidification, independent of the house system, which matters when one person is working in there all day and the rest of the house is empty.
Multi-zone ductless on no-duct rooms. Some older Los Altos ranches have a wing on a slab with no practical duct path. We'll run a Mitsubishi multi-zone system, one outdoor condenser feeding two or three heads, so each problem room gets independent control. We size the condenser to the combined load, not the sum of the head ratings, which is a common spec mistake.
Service and refrigerant work on existing units. We service Mitsubishi units other contractors installed: error-code diagnostics, low-charge calls, drain-line clogs on the cassette and wall heads, and outdoor-unit fan or board faults. Mitsubishi parts run through their distribution network rather than off a local shelf, so we order ahead and tell you the lead time up front.
