Heil in Los Altos
Heil is the value member of the ICP family, built on the same furnace, AC, and heat pump platforms as Tempstar and Comfortmaker. In Los Altos, where the standard house is a large single-story ranch on a generous lot, that value tier earns its place on dual-zone installs, where you're buying two systems and the cost of going premium on both adds up fast. The shared ICP parts also keep service simple, since components cross over between the three brands.
The Los Altos lot pattern pushes us into dual-zone HVAC almost by default. A single large condenser can technically cover this footprint, but two smaller systems sized per floor or per wing run more efficiently and dehumidify better. Heil fits well as one or both of those zones on a like-for-like or conversion job, especially on the floor or wing that doesn't carry the home's primary living space. The marine-influenced climate here keeps cooling loads moderate and winters mild, so a standard Heil heat pump handles the swings without reaching for cold-climate equipment.
Los Altos also has a high rate of additions and second-story pop-ups, and that's where the real brand conversation comes up. When a long-time homeowner has a room that's always been hot, the original system was never resized for the grown footprint. Sometimes the fix is upsizing the central system, where Heil works fine. Sometimes it's a dedicated ductless head for the problem room, and there a Mitsubishi or Daikin head is the better tool. Heil sits below those on quiet variable-speed modulation, so we match the brand to the job rather than defaulting to one line.
Heil work we do in Los Altos
Dual-zone Heil heat pump install sized per floor. On the large ranch footprint we split the load into two systems sized per floor or wing rather than one oversized condenser. Heil heat pumps fit one or both zones well, run more efficiently than a single unit, and dehumidify better. We run Manual J on the current floor plan first.
Re-sizing after additions and pop-ups. When the 'always been hot' room turns out to be an addition the original system never accounted for, we re-run the load on the current footprint. Sometimes we upsize the central Heil system; sometimes a supplemental head is the better fix. We put the comparison on the estimate.
Capacitor, contactor, and board service on Heil and Tempstar units. Routine service on these systems is the usual electrical-component wear plus the occasional control board. Because the ICP boards are shared across Heil, Tempstar, and Comfortmaker, we can usually source the right part quickly rather than leaving a zone down.
Refrigerant line inspection on dual-zone retrofits. On a dual-zone Heil retrofit we pressure-test and inspect each line set before deciding whether to flush and reuse or replace. We tell you which line sets are safe to keep before any work starts, so you're not paying to recharge a system with a hidden leak.
