Gree in Los Altos
Gree is one of the largest HVAC manufacturers in the world, and the equipment we install under its own name is value ductless mini-splits. They are a budget alternative to Mitsubishi and Daikin, and they fit single rooms and additions rather than whole homes.
Los Altos has a particular pattern that suits this. These are mostly mid-century ranch homes on quarter-acre and larger lots, and homeowners tend to stay for decades and grow the house in place. Additions and second-story pop-ups are common, and the original HVAC was almost never resized when the footprint changed. So nearly every long-time homeowner has at least one room that has always been hot. For the central system we install dual-zone setups and lean toward premium brands like Daikin, but for that one stubborn add-on room a Gree head is the economical fix. The marine influence keeps the per-room load moderate, well within what a value mini-split covers for a single space.
The tradeoff we lay out is straightforward. Gree is cheaper than supplementing with a premium ductless head, and for a home office or a converted bonus room that is often the right economic call. The catch is a thinner parts and support network than the Japanese brands. We run Manual J on the actual current floor plan, then tell you honestly whether the answer is upsizing the central system, a Gree head, or a premium head, and price the options.
Gree work we do in Los Altos
Dedicated heads for the always-hot room. The classic Los Altos problem is a room added years after the original system was sized. A Gree single-zone head gives that space its own thermostat for less than re-ducting or upsizing the whole central system, and we confirm with a Manual J on the current footprint that a head is the right move.
Home-office and pop-up additions. Second-story pop-ups and converted home offices often sit at the end of a duct run that cannot keep up. A Gree mini-split handles that space directly. We check panel capacity and route the line set to a clean condenser location on the lot.
Servicing older value mini-splits. We diagnose Gree heads that have stopped working. On these we most often find a clogged condensate drain or iced coil, a tripped float switch, or a worn outdoor fan motor. We trace it to the actual cause and check the original install against spec before recommending parts or replacement.
Weighing a Gree head against upsizing. Sometimes the better answer is not a mini-split at all but resizing the central dual-zone system. We put the Gree option, a premium head, and the central-system route side by side on the estimate so the choice is made on numbers.
