Rheem in Half Moon Bay
Half Moon Bay rarely sees a hot day. Summer highs mostly sit in the mid-70s, the morning fog off the water can hang on past noon, and a lot of homes get more use out of the heating side of a Rheem system than the cooling side all year. That changes how I size equipment here compared to an inland city: the AC still has to be adequate for the occasional warm September afternoon, but the heat pump or furnace is doing the real work, and that is where I put the sizing attention.
Salt air is the defining problem for outdoor equipment on the whole Coastside, and I say that for Half Moon Bay along with Montara, Moss Beach, and El Granada, since we cover all of them and the salt exposure does not stop at a city line. A Rheem condenser installed right on the coast corrodes faster than the same unit twenty miles inland: coil fins pit, cabinet screws and hinges rust, and contactor points inside the electrical compartment pit sooner from salt-laden moisture getting in. I set a shorter service interval for coastal customers because of this and I tell people honestly when a unit's cabinet or coil is starting to go, rather than waiting for a no-cool call to bring it up.
Homes closest to the water, from the flats near Main Street down to the bluffs above the harbor, see the fastest corrosion. Houses set back on higher ground past Highway 1 hold up a little longer, but salt air still reaches them, just more slowly. Half Moon Bay is part of our regular Peninsula route now, covered by a technician based in San Mateo County, so this is not a special coastal trip from San Ramon.
Rheem work we do in Half Moon Bay
Coil and cabinet corrosion inspection on coastal condensers. A Rheem condenser installed within a mile or two of the water in Half Moon Bay, Montara, Moss Beach, or El Granada shows corrosion at the coil fins and cabinet fasteners years before an inland unit would. I inspect for pitting and rust at every service call on a coastal system and flag it honestly when the cabinet or coil is heading toward end of life, rather than waiting for it to fail.
Contactor and control board repair inside salt-affected electrical compartments. Salt-laden moisture works into the outdoor electrical compartment over time and pits contactor points faster than an inland install sees. When a coastal Rheem condenser will not start or trips out, I check the contactor and control board for corrosion first, since a pitted contact can look exactly like a failed capacitor from the symptom alone.
Heating-side repairs on systems that see little AC duty. Because Half Moon Bay rarely gets hot, Rheem heat pumps and furnaces here rack up heating hours while the AC side barely runs. Igniter failures, heat exchanger issues, and heat pump defrost cycle problems show up more here than compressor wear does, since the compressor is not working nearly as hard as it would in an inland city.
