Friedrich in Half Moon Bay
Half Moon Bay is the anchor of our Coastside coverage, and we work the whole stretch from here, Montara, Moss Beach, and El Granada included. It's a different climate than the Peninsula towns a few miles inland: fog most mornings, cool summers, and salt air rolling straight off the ocean. Friedrich's product line, ductless heads, through-the-wall units, and room AC, fits a coastal town better than most, because cooling loads here stay small almost all year and the equipment doesn't have to fight inland heat.
The salt air is the real factor we plan around. Coastside homes near Main Street, the harbor at Pillar Point, and the bluffs in El Granada see faster corrosion on outdoor equipment than anywhere else we service. Friedrich's coastal-rated units hold up better than standard equipment, but even those need the outdoor coil rinsed and checked more often than a San Ramon or Redwood City install would.
Most of what we install on the Coastside is heating-focused rather than cooling-focused. A lot of the older cottages near Main Street and down toward the harbor were built without much insulation, since Half Moon Bay's fog kept summer heat from ever being the problem. When we install a Friedrich head for heating, we size it against the actual heat loss of an older, leakier structure, not a modern-insulation assumption, or the homeowner ends up cold on the foggiest nights.
Electrical contacts corroding inside the outdoor disconnect. On Coastside installs, we've found the outdoor electrical disconnect box itself corroding from salt exposure well before the compressor shows any problem, causing intermittent power loss to the unit. We check and clean those contacts as part of diagnosing anything that looks like a random shutdown.
