Ducane HVAC in Half Moon Bay

Along Main Street and out toward the harbor, salt air off the coast is the real deciding factor in how long any furnace or AC, Ducane included, holds up on the Coastside.

Ducane in Half Moon Bay

Ducane is Lennox's value ducted line, simpler equipment than premium Lennox at a lower price, with parts that are generally easier for us to source. Half Moon Bay is a different climate conversation than most of the Bay Area, though. Fog and onshore wind keep temperatures mild and cooling loads light almost year-round, which argues for simpler equipment. The salt air argues the other way, because it corrodes contacts, fasteners, and coil fins faster here than fifteen miles inland, and that's true of Ducane's cabinet and coil the same as it's true of premium brands at a similar price point.

We cover the whole Coastside from here, not just Half Moon Bay proper. Montara, Moss Beach, and El Granada get the same salt-air exposure and the same honest answer about equipment placement and maintenance. On any of these coastal installs, siting the outdoor condenser away from direct onshore spray and rinsing it down periodically does more for its lifespan than choosing a pricier brand.

Housing here runs from older beach cottages near Main Street and the harbor down to newer construction further from the water and out toward the flatter farmland along Highway 1. The cottages tend to have smaller, simpler heating loads that suit a value ducted system fine. Where I'd think twice about Ducane is a home sitting right on the bluff with heavy direct salt exposure, where the corrosion clock runs faster regardless of what we install, and where more frequent service visits matter more than brand tier.

Ducane work we do in Half Moon Bay

Corroded contactors near the coast. Salt air gets into the outdoor disconnect and contactor faster here than it does inland, and a corroded contactor is a common reason a condenser hums but won't start. On coastal Ducane installs we check these contacts on every maintenance visit, not just when something fails.

Coil and cabinet corrosion on units facing the water. An outdoor condenser sited to catch direct onshore wind off the harbor or the bluffs corrodes faster than one tucked against a wall or fence. We've re-sited more than one Coastside unit for this reason, and it's a cheaper fix than replacing a coil early.

Igniter and control board failures from age and humidity. The persistent coastal humidity doesn't help a furnace's control board or igniter last any longer than they would elsewhere, and once a Ducane furnace is into its second decade here, those are the first two parts I check on a no-heat call.
