Maytag in Pacifica
Maytag's HVAC equipment carries the name under license, Nortek builds the furnaces and condensers, not the appliance company. It's a mid-market ducted and, on newer installs, ductless line with a dependable track record. Out here on the coast, the equipment matters less than how it's protected from what the ocean does to it.
Pacifica homes facing the water, along Rockaway Beach, Linda Mar, and Sharp Park, take a beating from salt fog that inland cities never see. A condenser coil left unprotected corrodes years ahead of schedule, and I've pulled Maytag and other-brand units with pitted fins after six or seven years that would have lasted twice that in San Ramon. Coil coating and keeping the unit out of direct onshore wind make a real difference here, and I bring that up on every coastal quote.
A fair number of older Pacifica homes were never ducted at all, especially the smaller cottages near the beach, so a ductless Maytag heat pump is often the more practical fit than trying to retrofit ducts into a tight crawlspace. We run Pacifica alongside Daly City and San Bruno, and down toward Half Moon Bay on the same coastal route.
Maytag work we do in Pacifica
Condenser coil corrosion from salt fog. Salt air off the coast pits aluminum fins and corrodes copper tubing faster than any inland city we service. On a Pacifica replacement I look at coated coils and, where the site allows it, position the unit to cut down on direct onshore exposure, since that alone adds years to the equipment.
Cabinet and fastener rust on older outdoor units. Beyond the coil, the sheet metal cabinet and the mounting hardware on a coastal condenser rust through faster too. I've replaced whole cabinets on units where the refrigerant circuit was still fine, just the housing had rusted out from years of salt fog.
Ductless heat pump installs in homes with no existing ducts. Small Pacifica cottages, especially near Rockaway and Sharp Park, were often built without any ducting. Rather than open walls to run ducts, I spec a Maytag ductless system sized to the room load, which handles both heating and cooling without touching the structure.
