Carrier HVAC in San Jose

In San Jose's post-2000 ducted homes, Carrier Infinity is a strong AC and heat pump pick. In the Willow Glen Eichlers, it is the wrong tool and we will tell you so.

Carrier in San Jose

San Jose has the widest housing spread in our service area, and Carrier fits cleanly into one part of it. The 1990s-and-later homes across North San Jose and the newer Almaden and Cambrian builds usually have intact ductwork and a real cooling load, with summers running 85 to 95 and stretches over 100. That is exactly where a Carrier Infinity system earns its price: variable-speed cooling that holds a tight temperature through a hot week without the on-off swings of a single-stage condenser.

The Eichlers are the honest exception. Original mid-century Eichlers in Willow Glen, Cambrian, and Fairglen were built with radiant-slab heat and no ductwork at all. Carrier is a ducted brand, and there is nowhere for a ducted Carrier system to live in those homes without tearing into iconic open ceilings. For Eichlers we steer you to a ductless mini-split, not a Carrier ducted system. We have done a good number of Eichler retrofits since we opened in 2021, and ductless is the standard answer there, regardless of brand preference.

For the homes where Carrier does fit, the live conversation in 2026 is heat pump versus another gas furnace at end of life. BAAQMD rules tighten on gas furnace replacement later this decade, and an Infinity heat pump holds full capacity well below San Jose's mild winter heating design conditions. We run the load calc, check the panel, and price both the AC-plus-furnace path and the all-electric heat pump path so you are choosing on real numbers.

Carrier work we do in San Jose

Carrier Infinity AC and heat pump installs in post-2000 ducted homes. Our highest-volume Carrier job in San Jose. These homes have the ductwork and the cooling load to justify variable-speed equipment. We size to the actual Manual J load, not the old tonnage on the nameplate, because a lot of this stock was originally oversized and short-cycles in summer.

Full system replacement on 20-plus-year Carrier equipment. Older Carrier furnace-and-condenser pairs across West San Jose and Almaden are hitting end of life. When the compressor or heat exchanger fails on a 20-year unit, the repair rarely pencils out against the equipment value. We run replacement numbers, including the heat pump conversion option, before any repair-versus-replace decision.

Infinity control and communication fault diagnostics. Carrier's Infinity systems are communicating systems, so a comm fault between the controller, air handler, and outdoor unit can take the whole thing down or drop it into a limited backup mode. We trace the fault, check wiring and the board, and confirm the system returns to full variable-speed staging.

Summer AC repair: capacitors, contactors, refrigerant. When San Jose hits a 100-degree stretch, Carrier ACs fail on the usual suspects: blown run capacitors, pitted contactors, and low refrigerant from a slow leak. We carry these parts on the truck and find and fix the leak rather than just topping off, which is throwing money at the ground.

Carrier in San Jose: common questions

You are based in San Ramon. How does that work for a San Jose call?

San Jose is a regular route for us across the South Bay. We are realistic about it: same-day is best effort and depends on where the day's calls land, but San Jose scheduling is routine and we do not add distance fees for the South Bay. If we cannot get to you same-day we tell you the real window instead of stringing you along.

Should I even consider Carrier if I have an Eichler?

Honestly, no. Carrier is a ducted brand and Eichlers have no ductwork and open-beam ceilings you do not want to cut into. The right answer for an Eichler is a ductless mini-split. We will quote you a proper ductless system instead of forcing a ducted brand into a home that was never built for it.

With San Jose summers this hot, what should I expect a Carrier system to cost to run and maintain?

A variable-speed Infinity system tends to run more efficiently through a long hot week than a single-stage unit because it modulates instead of slamming on and off, which usually shows up on the summer PG&E bill. New installs carry our 10-year parts and labor warranty. The $75 diagnostic is credited toward any repair over $200. We check current San Jose rebate eligibility on heat pump conversions and put the active programs, not promises, on the estimate.
