Maytag in San Jose
San Jose has the broadest housing spread we work in, from mid-century Eichlers in Willow Glen to 1960s ranches in Almaden to post-2000 infill in the north. Maytag HVAC fits a specific slice of that: homes with intact ductwork where the owner wants a reliable mid-market system and values the long parts warranty over a premium brand name. The equipment is built under license by Nortek, so you are getting a dependable-reputation label rather than a distinct engineering pedigree. For a lot of San Jose replacements, that tradeoff is exactly right.
Here the cooling load runs the show. Summers sit in the high 80s and 90s with stretches over 100, so when we spec a Maytag system in San Jose it is almost always sized around cooling first, with heating as the easy secondary load (design heating is a mild 35 degrees). A Maytag AC or heat pump matched correctly to the load handles a Cambrian or West San Jose summer without short-cycling, which is the real failure mode of an oversized unit.
Where Maytag does not fit is the Eichler problem. Those original radiant-slab homes have no ductwork, and the right answer is almost always a ductless mini-split, which is not Maytag's residential strength. We do not force ducted equipment into a house that was never built for it. For everything with usable ducts, though, Maytag is a fair-value option we are happy to put on the estimate next to the premium lines.
Maytag work we do in San Jose
AC and furnace replacement on 1960s-80s stock. Almaden and West San Jose ranches are hitting the end of their second system. We replace the failed condenser and furnace with a properly sized Maytag pair, leading with cooling capacity because summer load is what stresses these homes.
Heat pump conversion with rebate filing. For 1990s-and-later homes with good ducts, a Maytag heat pump is a sensible end-of-life swap. We run the load calc, check the panel, and file the applicable PG&E and manufacturer rebates with the permit, not after.
Long-warranty registration. Maytag's extended parts warranty on eligible models is a real selling point in a house someone plans to keep. We register it correctly at install so the coverage actually stands when a part fails years later.
Capacitor and board diagnostics in peak summer. San Jose's heat is hard on AC electrical components. We carry common capacitors and control boards, and on Maytag/Nortek-built units the parts overlap with several sister brands, so we are rarely waiting on a special order.
