Tempstar in San Carlos
Tempstar is ICP's value brand under Carrier Global, built on Carrier and Bryant engineering at a lower price. We're upfront that it's a rebadge, but the parts crossover with Carrier is real and service isn't an issue. San Carlos has a wide range of housing, from the custom homes up in San Carlos Hills to the dense flatland tracts in Howard Park, Devonshire, and Belle Air, and Tempstar is the right conversation for the second group.
Those flatland streets were built out mostly in the 1940s and 50s, bungalow and ranch homes on regular lots, most on their second or third heating and cooling system since the original build. The duct runs are usually intact even after multiple equipment swaps, so a ducted Tempstar heat pump or furnace goes in without the extra cost of reworking ductwork. Up toward White Oaks and the hillside lots, homeowners more often want the top modulating tier, and we'll say so rather than push the value badge where it doesn't fit.
San Carlos runs through our Peninsula-based technician now, the same coverage as Belmont and Redwood City, so response here isn't tied to a driver crossing the Bay from San Ramon. Every job starts with the $99 diagnostic, credited toward the repair, and we put the findings on a written quote before any work starts.
Tempstar work we do in San Carlos
Ducted replacement in Howard Park and Devonshire. These 1940s and 50s bungalow tracts are good Tempstar territory, existing ductwork, single story, no zoning needed. We check the duct condition and run a Manual J before quoting, since a system sized to the actual house performs better than one matched to the old tonnage.
ECM blower motor failures on older ICP furnaces. The variable-speed ECM blower motor is the part most likely to fail on an aging ICP-family furnace, showing up as weak airflow or a system that short cycles. Because Tempstar shares Carrier and Bryant components, we can usually source the replacement motor from standard South Bay supply without a long wait.
Condensate drain clogs in attic-mounted units. A lot of San Carlos ranch homes run the furnace and coil out of the attic, and the condensate line clogs with algae over time. When it backs up, the float switch shuts the system down or water shows up on the ceiling below. We clear the line and check the slope so it doesn't clog again in a season.
