Daikin in Redwood City
Redwood City has more housing variety than most Peninsula cities its size, and each pocket wants something different from a Daikin system. Redwood Shores is flat, built in the 1970s and 80s on filled baylands around a network of canals, mostly townhomes and single-family houses with forced-air ductwork already in the walls. Up in Emerald Hills and Farm Hill, the lots are wooded and irregular, older homes on big parcels, some still running original 1960s and 70s furnaces that have never been touched.
Redwood City has run with the old civic claim of being the sunniest spot on the Peninsula for decades, and there's some truth to it. This city gets less fog than San Carlos or Belmont next door and runs warmer on an average summer afternoon, so I size Daikin systems here for that real load instead of borrowing a number from a foggier neighbor. Downtown itself is a different case again, dense with restaurants and mixed-use buildings around Courthouse Square, mostly recent construction with modern ductwork already sized right, so the Daikin work there tends to be straight equipment swaps rather than conversions.

Daikin work we do in Redwood City
Undersized cooling on systems copied from foggier neighboring cities. Redwood City runs sunnier and warmer than San Carlos or Belmont next door. When a Daikin system here was sized off a spec built for a foggier city, it falls behind on the hottest afternoons. We size for Redwood City's own load, not a neighbor's.
Coil and contactor corrosion on Redwood Shores condensers. The canal-front homes in Redwood Shores sit close enough to open water that an outdoor condenser's coil and electrical contacts corrode faster than a few miles inland. We check coil condition and contactor pitting on every Daikin service call out there, even when that isn't the reported problem.
Duct leaks undercutting Emerald Hills conversions. A lot of the wooded hillside homes in Emerald Hills and Farm Hill are still running original 1960s and 70s gas furnaces with ductwork that's never been resealed. Before we convert to a Daikin heat pump, we pressure-test that ductwork, since leaks there will undercut the new system's performance.
