LG in Albany
Albany is one of the better fits for LG in our whole service area. At 1.8 square miles, the city is nearly all 1920s to 1940s stucco and wood bungalows on small lots along the Marin Avenue grid, and almost none of them were built with central ducting or central air. Running new ducts into one of these small houses isn't realistic on a lot this size, so LG ductless skips that problem entirely. The Art Cool line also fits Albany's compact, design-conscious bungalow remodels, where a plain indoor unit stands out in a small room.
The climate here is the same marine-layer cool as Berkeley, so central air conditioning is close to nonexistent and heating carries the year. An LG heat pump head covers heating efficiently and adds cooling for the occasional warm stretch. Albany homeowners doing ADU conversions, basement units, or full bungalow remodels are a strong match for LG's all-electric approach, and we work with BayREN, MCE, and PG&E rebate programs and handle the paperwork where eligibility lines up.
The caveat on LG is its electronics. The app control and inverter management work well, but Albany's damp mornings put the inverter and defrost logic to work, and when something goes wrong it usually shows up as a board or communication fault rather than a simple mechanical part. That kind of diagnostic work is routine for us, and we'd rather owners hear about the failure pattern upfront than discover it later.
LG work we do in Albany
Ductless first-installs in bungalows and ADUs. We install LG single and multi-zone mini-splits in Albany bungalows, ADUs, and basement units that never had central air. The Art Cool heads suit small rooms where a plain indoor unit would stand out, and we route the line set with minimal disruption on tight lots.
Heat pump conversions off aging wall furnaces. Albany's bungalow stock runs mostly on original wall furnaces, and when an owner is ready to replace one, an LG heat pump is usually the cleanest all-electric path. Where the home qualifies, we take on the BayREN, MCE, and PG&E paperwork ourselves.
Inverter and defrost diagnostics on tight lots. Albany's small lots mean outdoor units often sit close to a fence line, and the marine-layer dampness works the inverter and defrost cycle on top of that. When an LG unit faults or short-cycles, we pull the error codes and test the sensors instead of swapping the board on a guess.
Combustion testing on the furnace being replaced. Before we convert a home to an LG heat pump, we run combustion analysis and CO testing on the existing wall furnace. That check flags whether the old furnace has become a safety hazard and backs up the decision to switch to a heat pump.
