Heil HVAC in Albany

Almost none of Albany's small bungalows have central ducting, so a ducted Heil system rarely fits; where a rare newer build or addition has ducts, we install and service the Heil furnaces and heat pumps that run on them.

Heil in Albany

Heil is an ICP value brand, mechanically close to Tempstar and Comfortmaker, and in Albany it's a brand that fits very few houses. At 1.8 square miles, the city is almost entirely 1920s to 1940s stucco and wood bungalows on small lots along the Marin Avenue grid, built with wall furnaces and no ductwork at all. Central air conditioning is close to nonexistent here. Cutting new duct runs into one of these small bungalows to fit a Heil furnace and coil doesn't make sense on a lot this size, so for the typical Albany house we steer to ductless.

The rare Albany home that can actually use Heil is a later addition or an infill build that got central ducting when it went up, not the older bungalow stock. There, a Heil gas furnace or heat pump tied into that ductwork is a fair value choice, and the ICP parts commonality with Tempstar and Comfortmaker keeps repairs quick and affordable.

Albany's climate runs the same marine-layer cool as the rest of the Inner East Bay, so heating dominates the year and cooling is a minor add. A lot of Albany bungalows carry an ADU or a basement unit added over the years, and those units almost always go ductless rather than tapping into a duct system that doesn't exist. When one of the rare ducted homes has an old gas furnace nearing the end of its life, a Heil heat pump conversion is often the cleaner path, and we handle the BayREN, MCE, or PG&E filings where the home qualifies.

Heil work we do in Albany

Heil furnace and heat pump on the rare ducted Albany home. On the small number of Albany homes with existing central ducting, usually a later addition or infill build, we install and service a Heil split or heat pump tied into that ductwork, and convert an aging gas furnace to a heat pump where the ducts are worth keeping.

Combustion testing on older Heil gas furnaces. Where a Heil furnace is running in Albany, heating carries most of the load year-round. On every gas furnace visit we run combustion analysis and a CO test, and the failures we see repeat on Heil are cracked hot-surface ignitors and flame sensors fouled with carbon. Those ignitors stay stocked on the truck.

Heat pump conversion with rebate paperwork. When one of Albany's rare ducted homes has an old gas furnace reaching the end of its life, a Heil heat pump is a value conversion. We run the load calculation, check the panel capacity, and handle the BayREN, MCE, or PG&E filings where the home qualifies.

Honest steer to ductless for the bungalow stock. For the stucco and wood bungalows along the Marin Avenue grid with no ductwork, which is most of Albany, we won't sell a ducted Heil system into a house that was never built to carry it. We quote a ductless mini-split instead, sized for the room or the ADU that needs it.

Heil in Albany: common questions

Albany is tiny and tucked in tight. Do you route out there from San Ramon?

Yes, it's part of our regular Inner East Bay coverage. The drive is about 40 to 45 minutes over I-580 or up Highway 24 to I-80, and we run Albany calls on the same days as Berkeley and Richmond rather than as a special trip. Once your appointment is booked, you get a written arrival window.

Is Heil the right brand for an Albany bungalow?

Almost never, honestly. Nearly all of Albany's housing is small bungalows with no ductwork, and for those a ductless mini-split beats a ducted Heil system every time. Heil only makes sense on the rare Albany home that already has central ducting, usually a newer build or addition. It's a value line sharing hardware with Tempstar and Comfortmaker, so parts stay cheap. New installs carry 10-year parts, with labor at 2 years standard (10 years on our maintenance plan); repairs carry 1 year.

Are there rebates if I do qualify for a Heil heat pump in Albany?

There can be, through BayREN, MCE, or PG&E programs, and we handle the paperwork where the home qualifies. Programs and amounts shift, so we confirm what's currently paying before it goes on the estimate. Our $99 diagnostic is credited toward the repair.
