Larger view lots and homes stepped into the grade often mean longer duct runs and warmer solar exposure, and a single-stage system has to work harder to hold the far end of the house even.

San Bruno's closeness to the Bay and to SFO keeps summer temperatures moderate citywide, so the AC side of a Payne system rarely gets pushed hard anywhere in town.
