Ruud in Piedmont
Ruud is the sister brand to Rheem, built in the same plants with parts that interchange, sold through plumbing and HVAC supply channels with a deep water-heating background behind it. The furnaces, condensers, and heat pumps are dependable mid-market equipment. Piedmont's climate, mild and marine-influenced with mild summers, makes a heat pump the natural choice, and a Ruud heat pump covers both the heating these homes already need and the cooling owners increasingly add.
The challenge in Piedmont is the housing, not the brand. These are large early-1900s through 1930s Tudor and Mediterranean estates with plaster walls, finished basements, and balloon framing, and many were never built for AC. Original ducts, where they exist, are often undersized for the load. On the bigger multi-story floor plans we almost always zone the system, because a three-story Piedmont house runs hot up top and cold on the ground floor otherwise. Ruud equipment pairs fine with zoning controls, and we engineer the duct sizing rather than assuming the original was right.
Where running new ductwork through a finished estate would be destructive, a ducted Ruud system is the wrong answer for that zone, and ductless handles additions, converted attics, and primary suites more cleanly. We're upfront about that split at the estimate. Ruud's place here is the ducted core of the house where ducts are worth keeping or rebuilding.
Ruud work we do in Piedmont
Heat pump conversions on aging estate furnaces. Many older Piedmont homes still run gravity or early forced-air gas furnaces. A Ruud ducted heat pump replaces that and adds the cooling these houses were never built for, efficiently given the mild hills climate. We run the load calc on the actual square footage, not a tonnage guess.
Zoning multi-story floor plans. A three-story estate heats and cools unevenly. We pair Ruud equipment with zoning controls and dampers so the top floor stops running hot while the ground floor stays cold. The zoning design is sized to the rooms, not bolted on after.
Re-engineering undersized ductwork. Original Piedmont ducts are frequently undersized for a modern load. Rather than reuse them blind with a new Ruud system, we check the sizing and rebuild what won't move the air the equipment is rated for.
Servicing existing Ruud and Rheem equipment. We repair installed Ruud and Rheem systems in Piedmont, from control boards to blower motors. Interchangeable parts across both labels keep sourcing simple even on older units.
