Maytag HVAC in Foster City

Foster City was built out almost entirely in one stretch through the 60s and 70s, so a huge share of its condos and townhomes are still running original-era ductwork behind a newer Maytag furnace.

Maytag in Foster City

The Maytag name on HVAC equipment comes from a license, not the appliance company itself. Nortek builds the furnaces, condensers, and heat pumps, and what you get is a mid-market ducted system, dependable, priced below the premium brands, with a longer parts warranty on some models. That's the line we install and service in Foster City.

Foster City is unusual for how uniform it is. The whole town went up on filled land behind the levees mostly in the 1960s and 70s, so a big share of the housing stock, especially the condos and townhomes around the lagoon, is the same age and the same basic construction. That means a lot of original ductwork is still in the walls, and when I quote a Maytag furnace or split system I test that ductwork rather than assume forty-plus-year-old ducts are still airtight.

Condos and townhomes here often mean an HOA has a say in where an outdoor condenser sits, so I plan the install around that before ordering equipment, not after. We run Foster City together with San Mateo, Belmont, and Redwood City on the same Mid-Peninsula route.

Maytag work we do in Foster City

Leaky original ductwork in 1960s-70s condos and townhomes. A lot of Foster City units are still on ductwork that went in with the original construction forty-plus years ago, and by now the joints leak air into the walls or the crawlspace. I test static pressure and duct leakage before I spec a new Maytag furnace, since a leaky duct system makes even a correctly sized unit underperform.

Condenser placement limited by HOA rules and small lot lines. Townhomes and condos around the lagoon often have a tight side yard or a shared wall, and the HOA usually has rules about where a condenser can sit and how it's screened. I check those constraints and, where needed, coordinate with the HOA before the Maytag equipment gets ordered, so there's no surprise at install.

Original furnaces failing near the end of a long run. Because so much of Foster City went up in the same building wave, a large share of the original furnaces are hitting end of life around the same time. I get a lot of calls where the furnace is on its last heat exchanger cycle, and swapping to a Maytag unit on the existing ducts, once they test sound, is usually the straightforward path.

Maytag in Foster City: common questions

Is Foster City a long drive for your technician?

We're based in San Ramon, but Foster City falls to our Peninsula technician, who's based in San Mateo County and covers Foster City alongside San Mateo, Belmont, and Redwood City as a normal route. It's not a cross-bay trip for him.

Does my HOA need to approve the equipment before you install it?

That depends on your HOA's rules, and I don't assume either way. I ask about condenser placement and any exterior restrictions when I quote the job, and if paperwork or approval is needed, we plan the install timeline around that instead of ordering equipment first.

What's the diagnostic fee, and is it credited toward the repair?

$99, credited toward the repair. Written quote before anything starts, same as any other Foster City service call.
