Ducane in Richmond
Richmond is a heating town. Summers sit in the 60s and low 70s off the bay, and a lot of the post-war housing in central and south Richmond never had AC to begin with. That changes the Ducane conversation here. We rarely sell a big cooling system. What we put in is usually a straight gas furnace replacement or, more often lately, a ducted heat pump that handles the modest cooling load and carries the heating through a mild winter that never stresses it.
Ducane is Lennox's value line, built under the same parent company but priced for budget and builder work rather than the high-modulation premium tier. For a Richmond bungalow or a Marina Bay home that needs a reliable furnace or a basic ducted heat pump and not a fully modulating system, it fits. The honest tradeoff is that you are buying simpler equipment: single or two-stage operation, and fewer of the high-end efficiency features. One practical upside in our experience is parts. Value-tier components like these tend to be easier to source and less locked-down than top-end Lennox-branded equivalents, so a future repair is less likely to strand you waiting on a back-ordered control board.
Where a home has no ducts at all, which happens in Point Richmond and the older stock, Ducane is not the answer and we will say so. Ducane is a ducted brand. On a no-duct house we point you to a ductless mini-split instead. We only put Ducane where there is usable ductwork to build around.
Ducane work we do in Richmond
Gas furnace replacement on aging post-war homes. We pull failing older furnaces in central and south Richmond and set a Ducane gas furnace matched to the existing duct system. We size by load, not by what came out, and CO-test the install before we leave.
Ducted heat pump conversion. On homes at end of furnace life, we install a Ducane ducted heat pump that covers the light Richmond cooling load and carries the winter. The mild bay climate means standard efficiency equipment runs fine here, no cold-climate premium needed.
Board and igniter repairs. When a Ducane unit faults, the usual culprits are the control board, a hot-surface igniter, or the blower motor. We stock the common parts, and because value-tier components are less locked-down than top-end Lennox, we can often get a part in the same week instead of waiting on a special order.
Duct inspection before any install. Older Richmond ducts in tight crawl spaces leak. We check and seal or repair before tying a new Ducane system in, so the value equipment is not fighting a leaky duct run from day one.
