Bosch in Daly City
Daly City is one of the foggiest spots in the Bay Area, and that matters more for a Bosch heat pump than almost anywhere else we work. Cooling load here is close to nothing most weeks of the year, so the equipment conversation is really about heating performance and how well the inverter compressor holds capacity in a climate that sits in the 50s and low 60s for long stretches. A Bosch inverter unit does not need a cold-climate variant to do that job well, since Daly City rarely drops near freezing even with the fog.
The housing stock is dominated by the Doelger-built tract homes in Westlake, rows of near-identical stucco houses on narrow lots with tight furnace closets that were designed around a small gas furnace, not a heat pump air handler. When we quote a Bosch conversion in Westlake, the closet dimensions and the existing duct run are the first things we check, because retrofitting into a footprint built for 1950s equipment takes real measuring, not a guess. Up in the hillside streets off Skyline and Vista Grande, slope adds a second wrinkle, since outdoor unit placement and line set routing have to work with a yard that is rarely flat.
We cover Brisbane as part of this same service area, the small city tucked against the north side of San Bruno Mountain with a lot of the same age of housing and the same marine layer overhead. Whether the address is a Westlake three-bedroom or a Brisbane hillside cottage, the fog and the tight lot sizes drive most of what we plan for on a Bosch install here.
Bosch work we do in Daly City
Furnace closet retrofit in Westlake tract homes. The Doelger-built homes in Westlake have narrow furnace closets sized for a small gas furnace, not always a straightforward fit for a Bosch ducted air handler. We measure the closet and the return air opening before quoting so the equipment we spec actually fits without cutting into a wall.
Wall furnace to ducted heat pump conversion. A fair number of older Daly City homes still run a wall furnace or floor furnace with no central ductwork at all. Converting to a Bosch ducted heat pump means adding duct runs through a home that was never built for them, so we walk the attic and crawl space first and price the ducting as its own line item.
Inverter board diagnostics in a chronically damp climate. Daly City's near-constant fog puts more moisture on an outdoor unit than a drier inland city would, and we do see condensation-related nuisance faults on inverter boards here that we would not see as often in San Ramon. We check the board, the sensors, and the cabinet seals before assuming a part is bad.
