Electrical and control boards. Less common, and the cost swings quite a bit depending on the board itself. Any of this work means live circuits and needs someone who actually knows the wiring for your specific system.

What a Tech Actually Checks

A real diagnostic isn’t a guess. A tech starts with what the system’s doing, not cooling at all, cooling weak, short-cycling, or tripping the breaker, because that narrows things down fast. From there it’s readings: voltage and amp draw at the disconnect and at individual components, refrigerant pressures on the gauges if a leak’s suspected, and a look at the coil for ice, corrosion, or dirt buildup choking the airflow.

Age and history matter too. A tech worth having back asks what the unit has done before and what it is doing today. A problem that showed up once is a different conversation than one that’s shown up twice in two summers.
