Furnace Repair in San Jose

San Jose furnaces run light. Summers do the heavy lifting on the AC side, so when a furnace acts up in winter it's usually a quick, specific fix.

Furnace Repair in San Jose

San Jose is a cooling town. Summers run 85 to 95 with stretches over 100, and the heating design temperature sits around 35 to 38, so furnaces here don't log the hours they would in a colder climate. That's good news for repair: a San Jose furnace that fails is usually failing on a discrete part, not from being worn out across the board. We see ignitors, flame sensors, and the occasional draft inducer, and most of those are same-visit fixes.

The housing tells two different stories. Across the West San Jose and Almaden ranch stock from the 1960s through the 80s, intact ducted gas furnaces are the norm, and those are straightforward repairs until the unit ages past the point where a heat pump conversion makes more sense. The Willow Glen and Cambrian Eichlers are a separate world entirely: they were built with radiant-slab heat and no furnace or ductwork at all. If your Eichler has no working heat, a furnace repair isn't the question. A ductless mini-split is, and we'll tell you that directly.

On the older ducted homes, when a furnace finally does give out, we'll mention that BAAQMD Rule 9-4 restricts gas furnace replacement starting 2029 and that PG&E rebates can stack on a heat pump conversion. We're not going to talk you out of a sensible repair on a furnace with years left. We just run that math when the unit is genuinely at end of life.

What we run into in San Jose

Ignitor and flame sensor service on ducted gas furnaces. On the Almaden and West San Jose ranch stock, no-heat calls usually come down to a cracked hot surface ignitor or a carboned flame sensor. We test, clean, and replace as needed, and confirm the unit cycles cleanly before we leave.

Honest assessment on Eichler heating. If you've got an Eichler with dead radiant-slab heat, we won't pretend a furnace retrofit makes sense. Copper-in-concrete is uneconomic to repair. The real answer is a ductless mini-split, and we'll walk you through what that looks like in an open-ceiling home.

Control board and blower diagnostics. On post-2000 Goodman and Carrier units, intermittent no-heat often traces to the control board or a failing blower motor. We isolate it rather than guessing, because swapping a board on a hunch is an expensive way to be wrong.

Repair-versus-replace on aging systems. When a 20-plus-year furnace fails, we price the fix against a heat pump conversion, including any rebate stack that is open at the time. Given the 2029 BAAQMD rule, we lay out the timing so you're choosing with the full picture.

Furnace Repair in San Jose: common questions

You're based in San Ramon. How does that work for a San Jose call?

San Jose is a real service area for us, not an afterthought. It's a longer run than our Tri-Valley core, so we batch South Bay calls and give you a firm arrival window. If we can't get there same-day, we tell you that up front rather than leaving you waiting.

My furnace barely runs in our mild winters. Why did it fail anyway?

Low run-hours actually protect a furnace overall, but two parts fail regardless of use: the hot surface ignitor and the flame sensor. The ignitor is a thermal-stress part, and the sensor carbons up over time. Those are the most common San Jose no-heat calls, and both are quick fixes.

My home is an Eichler with no heat. Can you repair the furnace?

There's no furnace to repair in an original Eichler. They used radiant-slab heat with the tubing cast into the concrete, and once it fails there's no practical way back in. The standard fix is a ductless mini-split system, which heats and cools without disturbing the open-ceiling design. We've done these before.
