Gree in Lafayette
Gree builds a huge share of the mini-split hardware that ships worldwide, including units that carry other companies' badges. Under its own name, Gree sells value ductless mini-splits. We install and service them as a budget alternative to Mitsubishi and Daikin, best suited to a single room or an addition rather than a whole house.
Lafayette is where ductless genuinely earns its keep. The homes sit on hillsides, a lot of mid-century custom construction on steep lots with tight crawl spaces, low attic clearance, and limited panel capacity. Tearing in new ductwork is destructive and expensive, so a meaningful share of our Lafayette installs are mini-split retrofits. Gree fits the budget end of that. If a homeowner wants room-by-room control in a back bedroom or a converted space and is watching the number, a Gree head does the job without the premium of a Mitsubishi multi-zone. The inland-but-hill-moderated climate, warm summers and cool winters, sits well within what a value mini-split handles for a single zone.
We are straight about the tradeoff. Gree is cheaper up front, and the parts and support network is thinner than the Japanese brands, so a future repair may mean a longer parts wait. On a hillside lot where access is already a factor, that matters. For a primary system we usually steer toward Mitsubishi or Daikin; for a secondary room on a tight budget, Gree is a defensible choice and we will price both.
Gree work we do in Lafayette
Single-room ductless retrofits. On Lafayette homes where duct runs through the framing are not practical, we add a Gree single-zone head to a back bedroom, home office, or converted space. It avoids opening walls and gives that room its own thermostat at a lower cost than a premium ductless system.
Hillside condenser placement. The Gree outdoor unit still has to land somewhere on a steep lot. We plan placement around grade and landscape, keep the line-set run within spec, and route condensate so it drains cleanly downhill rather than pooling against the foundation.
Servicing existing Gree mini-splits. We troubleshoot Gree units that quit heating or cooling. The usual culprits are a low refrigerant charge, a failed sensor, or a communication error between the indoor head and the condenser. We pull the codes and check the install against spec before quoting parts.
Pricing Gree against a premium head. When budget is the deciding factor, we put a Gree option and a Mitsubishi or Daikin option side by side on the written estimate, with the parts-availability tradeoff spelled out, so you are choosing on full information rather than the lowest line alone.
