Daikin in Los Altos Hills
Los Altos Hills is one-acre-minimum estate housing on rolling foothill terrain, and two things shape the HVAC: the size of the homes and the climate. The foothills here sit warmer and drier than the cooler bayside towns, and summers bring stretches in the 90s. That means the cooling side is real, and a heat pump has to actually perform in summer as well as heat in winter. Daikin fits that. The ducted Daikin Fit is an inverter-driven heat pump, and the modulation handles a genuine cooling load efficiently while still covering the mild winters. We're factory-trained on Daikin (Houston, 2025), and on a large foothill estate that summer demand is exactly where Daikin's inverter performance pays back.
The lots are the other half of the story. These are big, spread-out floor plans on steep, often wooded parcels, many semi-rural with their own utilities. A single system rarely covers the house evenly, so multi-zone designs with more than one air handler are the norm, and line sets sometimes run long to reach a condenser placed around the grade. Daikin equipment is engineered for those runs, and the install is a premium one. The brand buys you the modulation, the warranty, and quick parts when you need them. It won't change the lay of the land.
Not every job here is the top tier. On the older ranch estates, the original system was often oversized by tonnage rather than by a real load calculation, which is why one wing runs hot while another stays cold. There, the Daikin conversation is as much about right-sizing as the badge. We re-run the load calculation, and if a value-tier Goodman system, the sister brand under the same parent, fits the budget better, I'll say so. We install both, and the numbers go on the estimate.
Daikin work we do in Los Altos Hills
Multi-zone Daikin Fit installs for real cooling load. The foothill climate makes summer cooling genuine here, so we install ducted Daikin Fit heat pumps sized to handle it across spread-out floor plans. The inverter modulation holds even temperatures where a single-stage system would short-cycle and leave wings uneven.
Long line-set runs and hillside placement. On steep, wooded one-acre lots we plan condenser placement, line-set length, and condensate routing around the grade and the spread of the house. We design the runs to Daikin's limits rather than stretching them and hoping the system holds capacity.
Daikin ductless for additions and primary suites. Where running new ductwork through a finished estate would be destructive, we install Daikin mini-splits for additions, converted spaces, and primary suites. They add efficient heating and cooling cleanly without tearing into a large finished home.
Right-sizing oversized ranch-estate systems. On the older estates we often find the original system oversized by tonnage, causing short-cycling and uneven rooms. We re-run the Manual J and spec a correctly sized Daikin or value-tier system, then balance the airflow across the plan.
